The reaction to my project was not at all what I expected. Most of my peers reacted to the pictures as lonely rather than hopeful, and this made me seriously reconsider my technique and subject matter. I decided to reshoot during my spring break in Los Angeles, as I thought that the lighting there would be much more hopeful and I would have good opportunities to shoot, especially since I was in the city and there was much more material to chose from.
I realized after hearing the critique that while the idea behind my shots was good, it was not well-executed, and because my definition of hope is so non-concrete, it was tricky to pull off and I ended up evoking much more of a feeling of loneliness and desolation.
