Definition: the feeling that what is wanted can be had or that events will turn out for the best (dictionary.com).
This definition doesn’t work very well for me because it doesn’t include the darker side of the emotion. Hope, to me, is more something that comes from darkness, from challenge or turmoil, to overcome that darkness. I really like the idea of using light, particularly in contrast with darker subjects or backgrounds, to represent hope. At the same time, I think hope is a very human emotion and can be best represented by human faces or body language.

While it’s certainly somewhat dark in terms of emotive body language, there’s something about the cradling of the flowers that suggests hope, particularly because it’s in contrast with the almost broken-looking body.
